2022 KYBC Judging Criteria
Round 1 – Finalist Criteria
The first round involves the evaluation of every application by judges to select 50 finalists using
these criteria:
Innovative | New, original, and creative |
Scalable | Potential to grow |
Marketable | Urgent and pervasive consumer demand |
Sustainable | Potential for longevity |
Profitable | Income exceeds expenses |
Growth Potential | Evidence for growth in demand |
Financeable | Attractive and capable of being financed |
Minimal Risks | Identifiable and mitigatable |
Differentiated | Distinctive value proposition |
Funding Requirement | Low start-up and operational costs |
Round 2 – Pitch Criteria
The contest culminates with a formal presentation where the top finalists pitch to a panel of expert judges using these criteria:
Value Proposition | How business solution solves problem |
Target Market | Who will buy and why |
Market Size | Large enough to maintain/grow |
Business Model | Price and cost to produce |
Competitive Landscape | Competitors and strategy for winning |
Use of Funds | How award funds will be used |
Leadership and Team | Background and expertise in business area |
Key Partnerships | Trade or business relationships |
Clarity | Speaking clearly and providing examples |
Enthusiasm | Passion and energy |
